Toronto (CAN) based Singer/Songwriter/Composer Tallan M.D. is preparing to release his upcoming EP Delirium to the public in early 2014. He was gracious enough to let IMD check out three tracks fro the EP ahead of time. The 3 songs are as follows: Avant Garde, These Days, and Howl.
First up Track 1
“Avant Garde” serves up an enticing bass ridden groove meshed against hypnotic lyrical
content, strong melody and impressive vocals from Tallan. This intro track
sets the tone rather well for a fun yet eccentric EP like this. Track 2
gently takes flight with “These Days": a soothing acoustic lullaby that
gradually builds into a passionate rock ballad complete with hypnotic vocal
presence and a grand slam chorus. Track 3 “Howl” dishes out yet another superb
track with its pulsating lo end beat, and impassioned vocal fee, and impressive
As these songs slowly unfolded I could hear many musical influences reminiscent
of classic Talking Heads, Blind Mellon, Beck, INXS, and perhaps a dash of Franz
Ferdinand, Lady Gaga and Iggy Pop. I would classify this music as Alternative
Rock, with a slight aftertaste of Electronica, Ambient Pop, Alternative Folk and even Folkish
Sadcore. The songs themselves are addictive, eccentric, fascinating, and very

powerful subject matter delivered between the spoken word, with a heavy dose of
satire on the side. The musicianship, sampling and production touches from
Tallan M.D. are rock solid across the board. Tallan M.D. showcases rock solid
production instants throughout. Besides the 4 piece standard you will also
notice things like thick low end beats and rhythms, impressive sampling, well
ambient touches, and lush harmonies. Tallan M.D. is an accomplished composer,
musician, vocalist no doubt.
He is the quintessential rock star and reminds me of a modern day version
of Beck. Equally as impressive is the how Tallan M.D. makes the (singer
to listener) vocal connection with his songs. He has an appealing timber and
crisp, sharp baritone. Tallan M.D. also takes many
impressive vocal risks throughout the EP indicating to me a strong, confident
vocal ability. His voice sounds in the vein of
I typically deduct 1 star for EP releases. The full-length release is a more complete snapshot to judge an artist or band by at any given point in time.
