CD REVIEW:

Not Dead Yett!! is an indie pop-soul and house band formed by Grammy winner Don Mizell, undercovering as the funky front man guru, Dr. Don DJ and various cool whiz sidekick merry men..Together, they create magical upbeat and uplifting tracks to inspire, guide and motivate everyone to heal their wounds, change the world, and conquer their dreams. This fantastic fusion of synths, funky bass grooves and soulful singing make up their colorful musical movement of an album with their debut single, “Let Go, Let’s Go!!”

The CD quickly takes to flight with melodic intro piece “Show U”. This song serves up infectious musical ambience against mesmerizing vocals, hypnotic keyboards and driving rock rhythm that gently leads you by the hand down the path of silky musical indulgence. Track 2 “Gonna Be Alright” shifts gears a bit with its impressive intro, trippy electronica groove, impressive ambient touches and accents painted against a grand mosaic of soundscapes. The smooth as silk vocals from Dr. Don DJ on this piece brilliantly move like an ocean across the ears. Track 3 the title track is an impressive electro-earthy-jazz piece that is quite dynamic, full of musical peaks and valleys that flow and ebbs its way through to emotional fruition. This piece is remarkably soothing to the ears  with its Fusionist Alternative Jazzy-Rock touch and hypnotic groove. The lyrics will have you mesmerized and hypnotized. As the CD slowly unfolds I can hear many musical influences reminiscent of a classic LMFAO, Gorillaz, Pitbull, Flo-Rida and Talo Cruz however I can even hear an 80’s influence as well. I see these 2 as a modern day version of Cameo, Wang Chung and even Hall and Oates. I would classify this music as sexy yet trippy psychedelic Electronica Dance Pop with brief touches of Caribbean style Reggae and Alternative Rock with an Indie College Rock flair. I can also hear experimental music with classic remnants of Dub, Alternative Rock, and even Chill. The CD presents brilliant flashes of theatrical ambience and artistic perspective. You will also notice rich layers of ambient instrumentation layered along the way full of dynamic sequencing, melodic soundscapes, sporadic percussion, rhythm guitar, piano, solo guitar, lush harmonies, keyboards, organs, low end beats, sonic vocals, exotic sound effects and enticing melodies. Dr. Don DJ is an impressive talent behind the microphone. He in many ways reminds me of Barry White with his seductive baritone. Hi-Hat Carter also sings his parts well. “Let Go, Let it Go” showcase impressive yet trippy-zany singing and songwriting skills throughout. The musicianship from Hi- Hat Carter and many of the compositions are pretty solid across the board as this dynamic duo clearly has proven themselves as a force to reckoned with. All production aspects check out. CD possess solid low end punch and crystal clear high end clarity. I really like the low end frequencies and Bass both compatible with heavy Dance-Pop. From grooving “Go Out Tonight” to heartfelt “U Can’t Be Proud” and “can’t Forget About U” to grooving “So Glad” to jazzy “Weekend Getaway” this CD has something for just about everyone. The CD ends with Track 12 “Wonderfull” the perfect finale statement for an EP of this caliber.

All songs over 4 minutes tend to drag you to the finish line. Some aspects of the vocal performances and songwriting are polarizing to each other. In other words some songs are clearly better than others – vocal performances and writing. The CD tends to sound a bit repetitive overall. Perhaps more instrumentation would mix up the catalogue a bit better with some live instrumentation thrown in. I would wager this whole CD was recorded with a PC, a program and a microphone.

This debut release “Let Go, Let’s Go!!” by Not Dead Yett is a fun, uplifting and a compelling musical journey. This dynamic duo is making waves for themselves down in Florida for many reasons. Their strong suit is it’s amazing sonic ambience and song for song musical flow. Dr. Don DJ  brings the mojo and gets high marks from me for his carefree vocal vibe - nice touch. Hi-Hat Carter definately adds fuel to the fire. This CD will be a real joy for those listeners out there who want flowing un-fettered musical  experience to fill their atmosphere. This Electronic somewhat Poppy musical format provides the perfect dance-party setting. I recommend you just hit play, close your eyes and see where these 2 take you.  Hit play - Let Go, Let’s Go!!!
