Mike Isberto is a fresh new talent that has broken into the singer/songwriter scene. Growing up in Southern California, music has always been a huge part of his life. With influences ranging from folk artists James Taylor and Bob Dylan, to soul legends Otis Redding and Boyz II Men, to rap icons Tribe Called Quest. His eclectic love for music has shaped his style, and brings a whole new sound to folk music. His latest musical offering is entitled More in Love (2013).
The CD gently kicks things off with melodic “True North” a passionate guitar/guitar driven melody with methodical musical build, hooky chorus and emotionally charged vocal delivery from Isberto. Track 2 “I Can’t Sleep” serves up another hooky groove, with melodic musical flow coupled with earthy rhythm, hooky harmonies and impressive guitar-pop ambience. Track 3 “Lullaby Rain” shifts gears with its warm blanket intro eventually lending itself into a heartfelt pop ballad meshed with an infectious melody, well placed Piano and thought provoking lyrical content that flows and ebbs its way through to emotional fruition. As the CD unfolds I can hear many musical influences reminiscent of John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson and Counting Crows. Right from the start you will notice Isberto feels quite comfortable just letting it all hang out musically, not holding anything back. The overall musical vibe has a nice, melodic poppy, hooky feel to it. The guitar playing and overall musicianship is rock solid across the board as Isberto and company dish out impressive guitar licks, rock solid rhythm guitar playing, impressive Piano, pedal steel, piano and a few conservative string movements and keyboard accents. Isberto’s got solid vocal timber and is full of passion and recklessness abandon. He’s got good vocal instincts within each movement he displays an impressive falsetto and inviting timber throughout. His vocal style reminds me of a cross between Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) and John Maher. The musicianship from all the other members in the band has everything you would expect from a standard 4 piece rock band. The songs themselves are consistent musical experiences, each one possessing unique personality, flair and signature groove. The production quality is rock solid with crystal clear high end clarity and solid low end punch. From warm and inviting “Highway” to grooving “So Lost” to heartfelt “Perfect Day” this CD has something for just about everyone. The CD ends with Track 7 “More IN Love” the perfect finale statement for a CD of this caliber.
It’s hard to find any solid weaknesses with this production. All songs over 4 minutes tend to drag you to the finish line. The CD is a bit short with only 7 songs in the line-up. Perhaps 6-7 sore tracks are needed to make it a fully loaded release.
In close More In Love by Mike Isberto is an impressive, passionate, poppy, hooky 7 song release that’s sure to be a hit this Summer. If he has a slam dunk live presentation then that would be a deadly combination no doubt. The songs are extremely melodic, passionate and highly entertaining – and clearly prove Isberto is on to something special. At the end of the Mike Isberto is a world-class singer/songwriter possessing an infectious pop personality clearly worthy of worldwide recognition. One would be wise to keep a watchful on him over the years to come.
