Grand Rapids, Michigan based singer/songwriter Ibgy Iris just released his latest EP entitled Inevitable in 2012. Iris is no stranger to the business having released 3 full length CD’s, 2 EP's and has even had some of his songs featured in Feature Film. Iris is one of those artists that does all production work himself very much like Trent Reznor or Beck.

The CD kicks things off into high gear with “Push" a high octane guitar driven groove meshed against driving rock rhythm, emotionally charged vocal delivery and well placed harmonies from Iris. Track 2 “Slow Me Down" shifts gears a bit with it's solitary Piano intro, impressive sonic sound effects coupled with thought provoking lyrical content and heartfelt vocal delivery. This second piece serves up another solid low end groove, with melodic musical flow coupled with hooky chorus and impressive vocal accents from Iris. As the EP unfolds I can hear many musical influences reminiscent of classic Muse, Live, The Killers and even a dash of Pearl Jam and Radiohead.  I will add Iris's music is extremely hard to pigeonhole and transcends stupid attempts at pigeonholing my music critics like myself. Right from the amazing songwriting virtuoso from Iris never comes into question. Iris is one of those artists that feels quite comfortable just letting it all hang out musically, not holding anything back. The overall musical vibe has a nice, raw punk indie feel to it. His guitar playing is rock solid across the board as he dishes out impressive guitar licks, rock solid rhythm guitar playing and a few mesmerizing solos. Now turning our attention over to Iris - he has a voice to die for. Iris clearly makes the emotional connection with his baritone and and overall vocal emotion. Iris delivers rock solid vocal timber and is full of passion with recklessness abandon. The musicianship from Iris has everything you would expect from a standard 4 piece rock band. The production touches are brilliant and the overall sound quality is Gold Standard showcasing crystal clear high end clarity and solid low end frequency. As for the songs themselves - all are consistent musical experiences, each one possessing unique personality, flair and signature groove. The EP ends with Track 3" Last Prayer'  the perfect finale statement for an EP of this caliber.

It's hard to find any serious weaknesses when listening to this EP. I will say it's a bit short when compared to other EP's within the genera. I typically don't give out 10 star ratings out to EP's either. The full length releases is a more complete snapshot of what an artists is capable of

In close Inevitable from Igby Iris is an action packed production from start to finish. It’s strong suit – its raw feel almost as if you were watching a band play live in the studio. If Iris has a slam dunk live presentation then that would be a deadly combination no doubt. The songs are extremely melodic, passionate and powerful – and will no doubt get your adrenalin pumping. How much will you like an artists  Igby Iris - let me go on record to say it's inevitable.
