INTERVIEW: Harold Honey
by Cyrus Rhodes
Harold Honey is a fascinating artist based out of Venice California. His latest 5 song EP is entitled Helltown, and as quirky as this set is, it’s a lot of fun. I wish there was more music here, and short of that, I would have rather heard something with a bit more meat on its bones in place of “Paradise Club,” but this is an entertaining EP that showcases talent and diverse musical leanings while just feeling like a fun time..
IMD What do you want fans to take from your music?
HH I want them to have a laugh and feel like they have a friend. I hope that they can relax and get rid of some stress. Have some fun.
IMD Who are some of your top musical influences?
HH I like blues almost all of it. I also listen to some metal and a lot of singer/songwriter stuff. I guess something like Neil Young, Metallica and BB King.
IMD What was the best concert you guys have ever been to?
HH I saw Steve Earle play recently and was very impressed and had a good time.
IMD Tell us about your latest release
HH I pull out all the stops on my latest release. I worked with an amazing producer named Adam Marsland. He has a cool studio called Karma Frog in los angeles ca. My new sound has a lot of elements and textures. It really combines like fifties style and doo wop and some other elements. Im really proud of the new cd and it has gotten a lot of great reviews.

IMD What are the best and worst things about being an Independent Artist in your area or locale? There are a lot of bands in los angeles. People dont always come to shows. There are also a lot of business contacts in los angeles- some good and bad. Also, great weather here.
HH Do you remember the first song you ever wrote?
IMD I wrote a metal song in highschool. I think I called it "burn at the stake" It was kind of a combination of slayer and mercyful fate. I played it for my friends in highschool and they though it was cool. It was about a witch i think. Very metal.
HH Is there a track that stands out on your latest release that stands out as being your personal favorite? I really like Hollywood Jesus (vegas bound). The song has some different changes and really has a different sound. Rocco Michaluk is making a music video for it and it should be real good.
IMD What’s the best thing about performing live? I love to play live. It is great to see how songs go over with the audience.
HH Amy touring scheduled to support? I just got back from a tour in texas and before that toured around the east coast-ohio, pa nj and ct. Im going to go up to seattle and portland soon and do some more touring.
IMD What’s next for you as an artist?
HH I'm actually taking a trip to tokyo and think that will be fun. Im playing a couple shows there at some small venues and stuff and think it will be a strange but amazing experience.
