Brother & sister Mark & Kimberlee Holt Tully, Darkhorse hail from Weippe, Idaho. They release this 11 song CD "Acoustically Native" in the 2003. From start to finish “Acoustically Native” CD is an impressive collection of music. Song for song, note for note it’s very passionate, powerful, & extremely melodic in nature. To say the least it's packed to the hilt with musical variety. The writing, playing, & singing abilities of Mark & Kimberlee are impressive, & will be sure to lift your spirits without even trying. As the CD progressed I became more and more impressed with it. The musicianship is first rate, the songs are short and sweet musical experiences, each one possessing a unique personality, flair, and signature groove. Dark Horse is amazing! What else can I say - I highly recommend you jump on this horse.

IMD How would you classify your music?

DH Bluesy, Jazzy, Americana

IMD What inspired the band name “Darkhorse”?

DH We actually just call ourselves Mark & Kimberlee. Darkhorse is more of a nickname, We have been in and around the Horse Industry & Professional Rodeo all our lives. My Dad raises Quarter Horses. I knew how to ride a horse before I could ride a bike. I always root for the Underdog. I still watch Sebiscuit  & The Dreamer every couple of months.

IMD For Mark - I was impressed with some of the fancy fretwork, how long have you been playing banjo, guitar?

DH Been playing the Guitar since I was 10, and the 5-string banjo since I was 12, I also play the mandolin

IMD Who are some of your top musical influences?

DH John Denver, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Tony Rice, Flatt & Scruggs, the Los Lonely Boys

IMD I hear John Denver, Willie Nelson, Don McLean, & Glen Campbell  am I off the mark there?

DH Wow, I didn’t think it was that obvious…..

IMD What do you guys like most about performing live?

DH The spontaneity, I think that is why I love doing Live Morning Television so much, you have to be able to just completely fly by the seat of your pants & make it work on the spot.

IMD Who gets to be your all time favorite band or artist?

DH John Denver

IMD Most inspirational song or piece of music (TOP 3)

DH . John Denver.. An Evening with John Denver. LIVE in LA 1974  2. Tony Rice.. Freeborn Man: Live @ Wilkesboro 3.  Los Lonely Boys Live @ Austin Music Festival

IMD What was the best concert you’ve ever been to?

DH Loretta Lynn @ the Ryman in Nashville (when she launched into Coal Miners Daughter: the hair on the back of my neck stood strait up & I got chills) The place just got hush quiet, we knew we were watching History before our Eyes.

IMD I especially enjoyed the song “ONE LAST DANCE” could you tell us more about that particular piece, what inspired that one?

DH Obviously, I had a serious relationship deteriorate, & I was writing it all down. The first dozen times I tried to sing that song, I couldn’t get through it without breaking down. I still remember the pain of writing it all down on paper.

IMD How about “ALL OVER NOW”?

DH I just had this vision of a guy just scared of commitment, running as fast as he could away from it all & then realizing that he messed up and can’t get the girl to take him back (it goes back to horses, a horse’s first instinct is to Run, & then stop & turn around to see what Scared Him.) "I’ve gone so far, gone so fast,  What will become of Me I’ve been under fences and over stone, What will become of Me."

IMD I really liked the “Frank Sinatra Medley” especially how you were able to make sound like your own song. What inspired you to peruse that song?

DH I love Frank Sinatra & the Rat Pack I just thought it would be fun to do something that different and unexpected with Acoustic Instruments. Our Frank Sinatra Medley is still one of our Audience Favorites, & it is still Fun to surprise people with styles of music they don’t expect from Acoustic Instruments.

IMD What’s next for Darkhorse?

DH We are excited about filming our Live DVD and capturing all our new material, I think we have written some of our best songs in the last 5 years, & I want to be able to have folks hear them in a live format Mark Holt & Kimberlee Holt Tully LIVE @ the One World Café. We are excited about joining Katavi Arts Group Kim & I feel at home in Seattle, so it is nice to be able to work with a company with Strong Northwest Ties
