INTERVIEW: Cass Dillon
by Cyrus Rhodes
IMD In lieu of your latest release what do you want fans to take from your music?
CD A little bump of positively and awareness.
IMD How did this latest release ďI Love YouĒ come together? Where was the video filmed at?
CD A few of us were hanging at my managerís house over the summer for a weekend in Mattituck Long Island, New York, which is where the video was shot. I started strumming some chords and piecing the song together that night. I produced it the following day, and the day after that we shot the video in one take. It was an unusually fluid process.
IMD Who are some of your top musical influences?
CD Bill Withers, John Mayer, Steve Miller, Joy Zipper, CSNY
IMD Whatís the best concert you have ever been to, performed at?
CD I was back stage for Rage Against The Machine at Rock The Bells a few years ago. That was unbelievable. Performing with Billy Joel for the first time in Chicago at the American Airlines Arena was a career highlight.
IMD Tell us about what it was like working with Billy Joel?
CD For me, being from Long Island, there are moments where he seems like a Long Island family dad who lives down the block from you and maybe he coached your little league baseball team. And then the very next moment I wake up and realize heís one of the worldís greatest songwriters and most profound, interesting, intelligent human beings. So working with him, there were moments that felt very cool comfortable and then moments where I was beyond intimidated. An amazing experience nonetheless.
"I love experimenting with different ways to express a song."

IMD How have you changed and evolved as an artist over the last few years?
CD As an artist, I have fooled around with different genres and sounds. I love experimenting with different ways to express a song. A raw organic folk sound has always been with me throughout my creative journey. That seems to flow naturally through me.
IMD Whatís it best and worst things about being an artist from your locale?
CD Itís NYC. Tons of great live music and entertainment, but it can be very distracting at the same time, for me and for other music lovers who I could connect with my music.
IMD Whatís the best thing about performing live?
CD Itís that moment when Iím so deeply involved in the lyrics, the groove, and the feel of the songÖ It feels effortless and it hits you that your buddies on stage and the people in the audience are right there with you.
IMD Any touring scheduled to support your latest effort?
CD Iíll be performing locally while I finish working on this new record. And then I hope to get out there early next year.
IMD Whatís next for Cass Dillon?
CD Iím spread pretty thin these days, which is how I like to run my life. A new solo record, Iím producing some other artists, I have a dirty blues rock side project band, and I acted in a movie with Anne Hathaway that comes out next year.
