Automatik Eden Members, David Crocco and Cela Scott Developed the Band While Working Behind the Scenes with Top Acts from Eminem and Beck to Incubus. In their own words: We have all been exposed to well-known rock artists that are talented not only in music but are also endowed with other gifts. It seems that as time goes by — and technology advances — artists are expanding their horizons. Composer, David Crocco (vocals, guitar, bass, drums) and fellow singer, songwriter and guitarist, Cela Scott of Automatik Eden are prime examples. David’s post-production engineering skills have been in demand for a while now, having worked with a plethora of contemporary music icons, in various genres. Performers include everyone from Dr. Dre and Busta Rhymes to Nickelback and System Of A Down…not an easy feat. This latest 5 Track EP Teaser “gold to Straw” was released in 2014.
The EP methodically lifts off the ground nicely with soul stirring intro piece “Gold to Straw.” This impressive lead off statement serves up a psychedelic groove full of soul-stirring musical ambience and hypnotic vocal delivery from Scott that gently leads you by the hand down the path of trippy musical indulgence. All in all it's my favorite piece on the EP. Track 2 “The Agency” keeps things trippy-good with its cinematic intro, pulsating elect5onic rhythm section, and in your face distorted guitar painted against a grand mosaic of vivid sound. The soulful musical flow of this second piece brilliantly moves like an ocean across the ears, full of tasty musical syncopation that flow and ebbs its way through to emotional fruition. This piece is remarkably striking to the ears, with its Alternative Rock touches and hypnotic vibe. As the EP slowly unfolds I can hear many musical influences reminiscent of a classic Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Ellie Goulding, Lykke Li, Florence and the Machine, Bat for Lashes, Oh Land. I would classify this music as Alternative Rock with a melodic yet psychedelic aftertaste. I can also hear elements of experimental avant-garde electronic based rock, with subtle hints of EDM, Chill and Dub. I can also hear slight Industrial/Punk Rock overtones. Besides the four piece standard one will also notice soaring guitar dynamics, a few well-placed harmonies, Sonic Piano, low end beats and rhythm, electronic drums and sporadic sampling, soulful harmonies and melodies. Scott showcases some impressive Mezzo Soprano with impressive power, control and finesse. She demonstrates an impassioned vocal feel all around. Vocally she reminds me of Terri Nunn (Berlin). Since were on the subject I see Automatik Eden as a modern day version of Berlin and even the Eurythmics. Automatik Eden has clearly proven themselves with this latest musical teaser. Both Crocco and Scott have a good, strong marketable sound and image between them both. Playing live I’ve read these two can dish out a cosmic fury that induces the same in their audience. It’s hard, it’s heavy, it’s dance heavy but it’s rock and roll based. Sure this has been done before but it feels re-imagined and reinvigorated. This is what Rock n’ Roll is all about - pushing the limits right? All engineering aspects check out. very well. CD possess crystal clear high end clarity and thick low end punch. The engineering team is headed up by Mixing legend Sean Beavan (NIN, Marylyn Manson) just to name a few notables. The rest of the EP provides a few exotic remixes (Bedroom Mix) by DJ Dias, (Turn Me On Mix) by DJ Kracked Aktor and (High-Mass Mix (Roger Romero). My top 3 tracks are: Track 1 “Gold to Straw”, Track 2 The Agency. and the (High-Mass Mix (Roger Romero).
I wish I heard a more of an active vocal role from Crocco on the first 2 tracks. After all this is a duo right? It wouldn’t take much to do this either – just a sporadic vocal reminder every now and then that he's in the band. Non of these tracks sell the "duo thing" very well. I also wish I heard a few more solo guitar segments on the first 2 track. Track 1 and 2 provided some ample opportunities for this, but it never happened. The guitar r feels like it was thrown in the back seat. I also typically deduct 1 star for EP releases as the full length release is the most compete snapshot to judge an artists by at any given point in time.
Automatik Eden’s latest EP release “Gold to Straw” is actually quite brilliant. It’s a compelling and consistent musical journey - that pushes hard and possesses a lot of depth. David Crocco and Cela Scott pretty much rock the house and are just a blast to listen to. The strong suit of this EP is its amazing song for song musical flow. These guys get high marks from me for their somewhat reckless musical approach. This CD will be a real joy for those listeners out there who want flowing rocking trippy Chill type production to fill their sonic space peacefully and unobtrusively. I recommend you just hit play, close your eyes and see where the party takes you. So if you’re looking for a fascinating musical experience with a alternative-rocked out musical flair that lets it all hang out then I highly recommend you take a listen to the latest EP release from “Automatik Eden called “Gold to Straw” right away via the above hyperlink.
